(M)AKOTO
❖❖❖❖❖ Penumbral ❖❖❖❖❖
MADK. | Post-Chapter 12.
Approximately 19 years. (Probably 20 In-Game)
♂, cis, he/him.
Firebrand.
Achamoth.
❖ First Impressions ❖
Physical
Reference. Physically unimpressive for a self-professed demon. Makoto is around average height (~5'5") with a slight, slender build; there is nothing in his narrow shoulders or willowy frame that would indicate he is much of a threat. He has a wan complexion and long, dark, somewhat wavy hair that would reach well past his collarbones if free – he typically wears it tied loosely with a ribbon. His strange eyes are immediately peculiar: the irises are pale and colorless against bright red sclera, giving the impression of chips of ice floating in a pool of blood. He has a terrible and obvious scar completely encircling his neck, just below where his head connects. It appears the only thing keeping the two connected is careful suturing. Makoto has replaced his formerly-human tongue with a demon’s, though it often appears normal regardless. He also has attached two large red-violet draconic wings to the small of his back. He can fully extend and retract these wings at will; it can be assumed he keeps them withdrawn unless specified otherwise. He typically moves and acts with fluidity and purpose. His shard is not immediately visible, embedded in the divot at the base of the skull. Increasingly dark and opaque, his shard is wine-red in hue and shaped like a vertical eye.

True Sight Information: Any Aion with True Sight who has seen the Regent before will be able to see that Makoto now shares some of the qualities of their spiritual aura. If that Aion has never seen the Regent before, they will be able to tell that there is something darker lurking within and which doesn’t seem to fit in with the rest of his soul’s composition.
Personality
Machiavellian, sly, conniving, capricious, glib, purposefully provoking. Purely selfish and self-motivated; a lifetime of highly conditional love and outright scorn means that he cannot bring himself to trust the baseless compassion of others. Makoto purposefully underplays himself, having only ever found value in being underestimated, but his delicate body and often disarming demeanor belie potential for horrific violence and savagery.
❖ Background ❖
CONTENT WARNINGS: suicide, cannibalism / vore, decapitation, prostitution as a minor.

Makoto was a teenager in high school when he successfully summoned a demon by way of occult ritual in his bedroom. When asked by the demon for the wish the boy wanted granted in exchange for his life, he answered without hesitation: “I want to eat demon flesh.”

Makoto had been aware of his morbid and perverse inclinations long before others scorned and shamed him for them. In summoning a demon, he sought to kill two birds with one stone: he would be able to satisfy his sexual desire for eating the flesh of another person without actually taking anyone’s life and, in the completion of the contract, he would die, conscience as untarnished as he could ever hope for. This plan went awry; one month later, when Makoto finally felt fulfilled in their contract, the demon instead removed his head and brought him back to hell as his “pet,” vowing to love, raise, and provide for him as a demon in his own right.

That promise ended up being a far rawer deal than Makoto initially hoped. In order to tutor him in the ways of demons and their society, the demon – an archduke of hell known only by the initial “J” – sent him to work at a friend’s, Datenshou’s, establishment. That establishment ended up being a brothel, and after three days of confusion and distress, Makoto came to a realization: this second life of his is not his own, and the only reason he exists is for the amusement of his demon master. Infuriated by how he’s trapped in this position and J’s systematic removal of whatever scrap of agency he might still have, Makoto vowed to surpass him – to become cunning and powerful enough to destroy and devour him in an act of vengeance. In order to begin amassing the knowledge of how to do such a thing and wherewithal to utilize it, Makoto worked as a prostitute in Datenshou’s brothel for three years.

After these three years pass, J summons Makoto to his side once more, teaching him a demon’s trade: of attending humans who summon them on Earth, forming and fulfilling contracts with them, and reaping their souls. The first soul that Makoto reaps is his father’s; having grown so desperate in his loathing in the last thirty years on Earth after his son’s mysterious, macabre murder, he summoned the same demon in the selfsame way, just for the opportunity to kill his son with his own hands. After that rattling event, Makoto throws himself into his work in gathering gold as to fund a six month “vacation” he requests away from J. In this time he delves into J’s past in the slums of hell, learning more about his master’s youth, his former mentor W, and how he rose to prominence and prestige after extinguishing him.

Upon his recent return to J’s manor, Makoto’s made the conviction to make J fall in love with him, convinced that this is the key to any demon’s undoing.
❖ Abilities & Skills ❖
Innate
Body Swapping: Makoto can control any body his head is attached to. If he is cautious in removing it himself, he can continue to control his former body up until the point that he completes attaching it to a new one – at that point, he loses control over the former body. If he isn’t cautious while removing it, he can sever all motor functions but still retain sensory connection with the body, effectively trapping him until an external source helps him reattach it. As an extension of this, wounds of his heal much more quickly than a normal human’s might if he sutures them back up; this is true for something as minor as a small laceration or something as major as a severed limb.

Resilient: Though not physically strong, Makoto is very difficult to kill. He can survive intentional or unintentional decapitation (going in-line with his previous ability), and it can take him longer to exsanguinate than a typical human. As his shard is attached to his head, he will die if ether the body his head is attached to sustains enough physical damage to kill him or if his head sustains a similar amount of damage (if it is unattached to a body).

Wings: Makoto can fully extend and retract large, draconic wings from his lower back. He can use them to fly at the standard flight speed allowed by the game.
Aion
Enmity: (Minor Power) A power which manifests as a desperate, last-ditch effort against one's enemies. When injured, Makoto's physical strength will increase exponentially with how grievous his injuries become. This ability has no effect on any attack that would kill him instantaneously.

Doorway: (Minor Power) Using one hand Makoto draws a rectangular "doorway" in midair and points toward it to activate a short-distance teleportation. He can only teleport to a place within a 50 feet range that he can see. He can only teleport himself and small items immediately on his person. It requires energy to cast, so it cannot be cast too many times in succession without needing to "recharge." It requires the somatic component of the doorway being "drawn" — if his hands are bound or otherwise incapacitated, he cannot use this spell.

Communion: Granted by attaining Tier 1 attunement to the Kenoma.

Teleportation: Granted by attaining Tier 1 attunement to the Kenoma.

Returning Stone: Granted by attaining Tier 1 attunement to the Kenoma.

Basic Glamours: Granted by attaining Tier 1 attunement to the Kenoma.

Basic Cantrips: Granted by attaining Tier 1 attunement to the Kenoma.

Portals: Granted by attaining Tier 2 attunement to the Kenoma.

True Sight: Granted by attaining Tier 2 attunement to the Kenoma.
Other
Abyssal Soul: Makoto has had a fragment of the Regent’s own essence inserted into his soul, going beyond a standard attunement to the Kenoma. He is immune to certain effects of both the Kenoma and the Pleroma, such as the overwhelming presence of the former and certain weapons of the latter such as Expelling Light. He can attempt to call upon the Regent’s power to augment his own efforts, should the goal be physical or emotional destruction, though the challenge of channeling the Regent’s overwhelming power means that he uses this ability at risk to his body or his soul. He is tethered to their being and bound by their will. He finds himself compelled to follow their orders in a way that feels like his own impetus, and especially takes ire with those who are disrespectful or traitorous to them.

Curse of the Innocent: (DEFUNCT) When in the presence of any living creature suffering from physical wounds, a set of ghostly, angelic wings will emerge from where the Innocent's sigil rests on Makoto's back. These wings will begin to channel his own life energy towards the hurting being, nonconsensually using his strength to slowly heal the damage. This process happens gradually, and while he can leave once it begins, it will essentially take a feat of willpower. Similarly, if hurting beings are nearby, he may instinctively feel the need to go to them, which can also be resisted with willpower. This curse will drain him to the point of losing consciousness or becoming temporarily comatose, but it will not kill him. This Curse was removed from Makoto when he accepted the Regent’s essence into his shard.
❖ Resources ❖
Items
Medallion: A small and circular medallion inscribed with an “M” (or a “W,” depending on your perspective). It has no unique properties other than being made of pure gold. Makoto pretty much always has this item on his person, either wearing it at his throat or tying up his hair.

Returning Stone: A pendant which can be used in an Aion ritual to teleport back to Achamoth once a month.

Shard Case: A plain black leather jacket covering a black steel capsule, comparable in size and similar in design to a cigarette case. The case is equipped with a lock that can only be opened by a partnered key. On the interior is a padded recess perfectly shaped for Makoto's shard, and if closed, it will automatically lock.
Notes
Abyssal Soul: Makoto’s shard appears to be cracked down the middle, with a thin layer of void-black biding holding its two pieces together. Upon inspection, it appears that without this binding it would fall apart.

Curse of the Innocent: (DEFUNCT) Since his altercation with a spirit seemingly embodying the Innocent, Makoto has been marked with its curse. There are currently glowing lines down his shoulder blades, similar to the shape of the Innocent's sigil. The curse has since been removed.

Out of Character
Writing Style: I typically write in brackets, though it's mostly for formatting; there will be no difference in the way I write whether in brackets or prose. I will match my partner's style.
Tag Speed: Variable, based on real life scheduling and other things I have going on. It's not very common for me to boomerang threads. I will try to get to replies once every 1-3 days. I tend to be less active in the middle of the work week (Wednesday and Thursday especially) due to working in the office, FFXIV raiding, and other time commitments. Other days should (hopefully) be more fair game.
Backtagging: BIG YES! I will typically backtag until the threads are dropped. I typically do not drop threads without announcing on Plurk that I am doing so.
Threadhopping: I would say ask first.
Offensive Subjects: Explicit eye trauma.
In Character
Physical Violence: Yes! It's often enough that he asks for it, so if it makes sense for your character in the given situation, please feel free to manhandle him. I would ask that any intense violence that might result in grievous wounding be discussed with me OOC, just so I can plan for it, but I am not at all against it.
Death/Dissipation: Tentatively yes; please reach out to me OOC so we can discuss and plan.
Physical Affection: Sure! After three years working in a demon brothel, Makoto has very little shame or concept of his own personal space. He will either be unfazed or play into it, depending on what he views as more beneficial to him at the time.
Shipping/Sex: This depends. Sex is more likely than shipping/romance. Love isn't really in Makoto's wheelhouse — the closest thing he experiences to it is his overwhelming obsession and hatred for J, so it would be very difficult for anyone to compete for any emotion approaching that level of intensity in his heart. When it comes to sex, however, he is not shy, but he is more transactional than passionate. He is more than willing to either trade sex or use it to incentivize or manipulate others if he believes that they might be susceptible to it.
Mental/Communion: Go crazy. Anything in my introspection is fair game. I am also open to him receiving empathetic broadcasts from other characters.
Offensive Subjects: He's pretty unflappable unless J is involved.
